Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between SeaBlaze and Zambezi?
SeaBlaze lights use naval grade bronze housings for maximum durability and corrosion resistance — built for offshore and commercial use. Zambezi lights use polymer housings that are lighter and more affordable, ideal for freshwater and coastal boating. Both deliver excellent light output for their class.
Surface mount vs through-hull — which should I choose?
Surface mount lights bolt to the outside of the hull and are easier to install and service. Through-hull lights (like the Typhoon) mount flush through the hull for a cleaner look and maximum output, but require a hull penetration. For most boats, surface mount is the practical choice. Through-hull is preferred on superyachts and sportfish where aesthetics and maximum output matter.
How many lights do I need for my boat?
A general rule: 2 lights for boats under 30 feet, 4 lights for 30-50 feet, and 6+ for larger vessels. For the best effect, mount lights on the transom and midship. We can help you plan the optimal layout for your specific hull — call us for a free consultation.
What color should I choose — White/Blue or RGBW Spectrum?
White/Blue is the most popular choice and provides the classic underwater glow. RGBW Spectrum gives you full color control including red, green, blue, white, and every color in between — plus color cycling modes. If you want to match your boat's accent color or create party effects, go Spectrum.
Can I install underwater lights myself?
Surface mount lights are a straightforward DIY project for anyone comfortable with basic marine wiring. You'll need to drill mounting holes below the waterline and run wiring to your electrical panel. Through-hull installations should be done by a professional. Accumar Marine offers full installation services in South Florida.
Do Lumitec lights work on both 12V and 24V systems?
Yes. All Lumitec underwater lights accept 10-30V DC input, making them compatible with both 12V and 24V marine electrical systems. No external drivers or converters needed.
