Sailboat Rigging FAQ

How often should sailboat rigging be inspected?
We recommend annual rigging inspections for actively sailed boats and every 2-3 years for cruising sailboats. Standing rigging should be replaced every 10-15 years depending on usage, UV exposure, and material. In Southwest Florida's harsh UV and salt environment, more frequent inspections are advisable. Our inspection starts at $210 and includes a detailed written report.
What does a rigging inspection include?
Our rigging inspection covers all standing rigging (shrouds, stays, forestay, backstay), chainplates, turnbuckles, swage fittings, toggle pins, cotter pins, spreaders, mast hardware, running rigging condition, furling system operation, winch function, and all deck hardware. We provide a written report with photos and prioritized recommendations.
Do you replace standing rigging?
Yes, we handle complete standing rigging replacement including measurement, fabrication coordination, removal of old rigging, installation, and tuning. We work with 1x19 stainless steel wire, Dyneema synthetic rigging, rod rigging, and all standard materials. We also replace individual components like swage fittings, turnbuckles, and chainplates.
What furling systems do you service?
We service all major furling system brands including Profurl, Harken, Schaefer, Facnor, and Ronstan. Services include bearing replacement, drum service, foil straightening, halyard swivel service, and complete system replacement. We also install new furling systems on boats that don't have them.
Can you do a Coast Guard rigging inspection?
Yes, our rigging inspections meet Coast Guard standards and are suitable for compliance documentation. We inspect all safety-critical rigging components and provide a detailed written report. This is especially important for charter vessels and commercially operated sailboats.
