Bow & Stern Thruster Service in Southwest Florida
A thruster that has lost thrust, trips its protection, or ignores the helm control needs a system diagnosis—not a guessed replacement motor. ACCUMAR checks the control station, protection and wiring, power or hydraulic supply, motor or pump, gearbox, propeller and tunnel conditions before recommending repair or a vessel-specific retrofit.
ACCUMAR is factory authorized for WESMAR and ABT-TRAC service. Other thruster brands are serviced based on the installed system and available parts; service authorization is not implied.
Call (239) 323-9600Start with the symptom
Thruster faults can sit in more than one layer. We compare the reported symptom with operating voltage or hydraulic pressure, control response, connections, protection devices and the mechanical load so a failed-looking component is not replaced before its circuit is tested.
- No thrust or weak thrust: check command response, available power or hydraulic supply, motor or pump operation, propeller condition and tunnel obstruction.
- Intermittent operation or a dead control panel: inspect control stations, relays, fuses, connectors, network or signal wiring and voltage at the equipment.
- Motor overheats, hums or trips a breaker: stop repeated resets; binding, overload, voltage drop, damaged wiring or a stalled motor can produce similar symptoms.
- Runs but the boat barely moves: inspect the propeller and tunnel, gearbox or drive leg, direction of rotation and the system's actual operating conditions.
Electric and hydraulic thrusters
Electric thrusters may use DC or AC power with on/off or proportional controls. Hydraulic systems add a pump, valves, hoses, fluid, motor and pressure-control path; an integrated hydraulic plant may also serve stabilizers or deck equipment. The installed model, power source, controls and vessel wiring determine the safe test sequence.
- DC and AC systems: verify supply, protection, cable terminations, control inputs and motor behavior under the installed load.
- Hydraulic systems: inspect the pump and reservoir, fluid condition, hoses and fittings, valve response, pressure and the thruster's hydraulic motor.
- Mechanical drive path: inspect seals, shaft, bearings, gearbox, propellers and tunnel access without assuming a universal tunnel or propeller fit.
Repair, retrofit and installation assessment
ACCUMAR can assess a repair, replacement or new bow/stern installation around the vessel's available space, tunnel, structure, electrical or hydraulic capacity, controls, access and intended maneuvering use. Brands encountered in our service scope include WESMAR, ABT-TRAC, Sleipner/Side-Power, Max Power and Lewmar. Factory authorization applies to WESMAR and ABT-TRAC; the other listed brands are service capabilities.
- Existing-system repair: document the model and symptom, test the complete system, then identify repairable components and parts constraints.
- Retrofit review: confirm the existing tunnel and mounting arrangement, power or hydraulic capacity, controls and access before a replacement is selected.
- New installation: survey the vessel and produce a vessel-specific scope; there is no universal tunnel fit, horsepower selection or installation price tier.
When haulout or yard access is required
Dockside diagnosis may be possible when the controls, motor, pump and accessible wiring or hydraulics can be safely tested. Tunnel cutting, tunnel or propeller work below the waterline, external drive-leg or seal work, and some structural or alignment work require haulout or suitable yard access. The exact limit depends on the vessel and installed system; ACCUMAR will identify that constraint before quoting the work.
