What size AC circulation pump do I need for my boat?

AC circulation pump sizing depends on your system's BTU capacity. For systems under 24,000 BTU, a small magnetic drive pump like the March MDX-3-5/8 or Little Giant 3-MD-SC works well. Systems from 24,000-72,000 BTU typically need a Scot 67/68 series or Oberdorfer 107M. Larger systems over 72,000 BTU require Scot 78 series or high-volume centrifugal pumps. What is the difference between Scot and Oberdorfer AC pumps?

Scot pumps (by WILO) are the OEM standard on most Cruisair and Marine Air systems — the 67/68 series are the most common marine AC pumps in the industry. Oberdorfer's 107M series are designed as direct drop-in replacements for Scot 67/68 pumps with precision machined impellers for quieter operation. Both use bronze construction and carbon/ceramic mechanical seals. We stock both brands and can recommend the best option for your system.

How much does a marine AC pump replacement cost?

Why is my marine AC not cooling properly?

The most common cause is a failing or undersized seawater circulation pump. Check for: reduced water flow from the overboard discharge, pump making unusual noise, impeller wear (rubber impellers should be replaced annually), clogged strainer basket, or a failed mechanical seal causing air leaks. Other causes include low refrigerant, dirty condenser, or thermostat issues. Accumar Marine can diagnose and repair all marine AC system components.

What freshwater pump brand is best for boats?

Jabsco Par-Max and SHURflo are the two most popular marine freshwater pump brands. Jabsco Par-Max HD series (4-6 GPM) are the industry standard for boats with multiple fixtures — they're quiet, reliable, and self-priming. SHURflo Revolution and Aqua King series are excellent budget-friendly alternatives. We install and service all brands.

How often should marine pump impellers be replaced?

Rubber impellers in raw water pumps (AC circulation, engine cooling, washdown) should be inspected every 6 months and replaced annually in Southwest Florida's warm waters. Running a pump dry for even 30 seconds can destroy a rubber impeller. Bronze impellers in centrifugal pumps (Scot, Oberdorfer) last much longer — typically 3-5 years — but should be inspected annually for wear and corrosion. What bilge pump size do I need?

ABYC recommends minimum bilge pump capacity based on boat length: under 20ft needs 500-800 GPH, 20-30ft needs 1000-1500 GPH, 30-40ft needs 1500-2000 GPH, and 40ft+ needs 2000-4000 GPH. Always install both an automatic float-switch pump and a manual backup. Rule and Jabsco are the most popular bilge pump brands. We recommend Rule 2000 GPH automatic for most boats in the 25-40ft range.

Do you service diesel transfer and oil change pumps?
